The Theranos Trial
Currently executives at Theranos are being charged with criminal fraud. Allegedly, consumers of healthcare, which all of us are, were lured into placing confidence in a blood testing procedure that mostly proved to be fraudulent in results.
The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and deserve their day in court. I hope they did not betray the public trust. Yet regardless of the outcome of this particular trial, the matter does remind us of the importance of honorable whistleblowers.
It is unconscionable to think that fraud exists anywhere in the healthcare industry, which should be devoted to providing top quality healthcare and saving lives. But the reality is that fraud does exist in the healthcare industry, as it does elsewhere.
The good news is that there will most likely be valiant men and women to expose corporate and government fraud. They are called whistleblowers.
